Sažetak
Vrtoglavica je poremećaj prostorne orijentacije koja se manifestira kao iluzija kretanja vlastitog tijela ili okoline, najčešće kružnog karaktera, a često je praćena nistagmusom i neurovegetativnim simptomima. Nastaje kao posljedica poremećaja sustava za percepciju prostora, koje uključuje vestibularno osjetilo, vid, sluh i propriocepciju, pri čemu je većina vrtoglavica perifernog podrijetla. Vestibularna hipofunkcija označava smanjenu funkciju vestibularnog sustava, jednostranu ili obostranu, a dijagnosticira se kliničkim testovima ravnoteže i toplinskim (kaloričkim) pokusom po Fitzgerald-Hallpikeu. Simptomi uključuju prostornu dezorijentiranost, vrtoglavicu i posturalnu nestabilnost te mogu dovesti do smanjenja razine aktivnosti i povećanog rizika od padova, osobito u starijoj populaciji.

Abstract
Vertigo is a disorder of spatial orientation manifested as an illusion of movement of one’s own body or the surrounding environment, most commonly of a rotational character, and is often accompanied by nystagmus and neurovegetative symptoms. It results from dysfunction of the spatial perception system, which includes the vestibular system, vision, hearing, IZVORNI ZNANSTVENI RAD FIZIOINFO 16 and proprioception, with most cases being of peripheral origin. Vestibular hypofunction refers to reduced vestibular system function, either unilateral or bilateral, and is diagnosed using clinical balance tests and the Fitzgerald–Hallpike caloric test. Symptoms include spatial disorientation, vertigo, and postural instability, which may lead to reduced activity levels and an increased risk of falls, particularly in the elderly population.
