Korelacija poremećaja ravnoteže i oštećenja sluha kod pacijenata s Menierovom bolešću

Correlation between balance disorder and hearing impairment in patient with Meniere’s disease

Abstract

Meniere`s disease is a disease of the inner ear that causes recurrent of vertigo accompanied by nausea, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus, and a feeling of fullness and pressure in the affected ear. According to the guidelines of the American Academy of Otorinolaringology, Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), the diagnosis of Meniere`s disease is made after a minimum of three attacks of the disease with the previously mentioned symptoms. During the attacks of the disease, vestibular problems are dominant, which prevent patients from performing normal daily functions and significantly reduce the quality of life. Recurrent attacks of the disease lead to permanent hearing damage, or deafness. Previous research has not clearly determined wherever there is permanent damage to the vestibular sense in patients with Meniere`s disease. The aim of our study is to determine whether there is permanent damage to the vestibular sense in patients with diagnosed Meniere`s disease and whether there is a correlation with the degree of hearing damage.
